Transition task 1. - Media article

The article talks about the boy band ‘one direction’ and their single and album ‘live while were young’. The video was criticised in the news recently as it was deemed ‘inappropriate’ for their younger generation of fans but the boys themselves disagreed with the media interpretation.  The article takes parts from interviews with the boys relevant to their new track such as ‘admit they’re making the most of being young, successful and popular.’

The article also contains quotes from the boys regarding their feelings towards their fame and age as they all agree having fun is important as they are still young hence the name ‘live while were young’. The reporter also picks relevant key points from the boys career and incorporates is such as mentioning the fact that their first ever debut album became and no.1 worldwide hit in 2012. He also makes reference back to their first album ‘Up All Night’. There is a lot of focus in the article on how the boys cope with all the attention from paparazzi as well as fans as they are young and good looking so their personal lives are heavily reported.

It also focuses on the fact that they are still 18-21 year olds and are at the age where you want to get drunk and have a good time without having to worry about influencing other people (e.g. fans).

The article reflects the boys personalities and keeps it very upbeat all the way through keeping their reputation up even on subjects such as the paparazzi. The article comments on the contents of the new video featuring the boys and comments from the artists on filming the video which they thoroughly enjoyed.

THE ARTICLE -

One Direction says 'Live While We're Young' is a great anthem for a successful boy band

LONDON - One Direction's latest single sums it up: "Live While We're Young."

The members of the British pop group say they are happy to have that first track off their second album as a motto — and admit they're making the most of being young, successful and popular.

"We're working a lot, so when we're not, it's nice to have fun and enjoy yourself," singer Harry Styles, 18, said in an interview Wednesday. "It's important."

He was accompanied by band mates Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne — and they're all quick to laugh at themselves and each other.

These five names are known around the globe since their debut album, "Up All Night," became a No. 1 smash worldwide earlier this year.

So who they date and where they go is heavily reported, especially by the British press. But Tomlinson, 20, says they don't mind being trailed by the paparazzi.

"If we go out on a night out and we're a little bit drunk, it's not obviously going to be a great picture, but it's not too bad," he said. "The fact is we're young — everyone who is our age is going out."

Tomlinson added that "everyone complains about paps (paparazzi), but we always have a laugh with them, to be honest."

They enjoyed shooting the video for the single "Live While We're Young," which is out in the U.K. on Sept. 30.

Fans were quick to chat about the bare-chested scenes that Horan did but he shrugged off the sex idol comments, saying he was just warm, not showing off.

And the band members had a laugh and worked up a sweat trying zorbing — running around in giant plastic balls like hamsters.

If there's anything controversial about the sound of their feel-good new single, it's that the start of the song is similar to The Clash's "Should I Stay Or Should I Go."

"It's a bit like the first single ("What Makes You Beautiful") where the opening riff sounds similar to a certain film ("Summer Nights" from "Grease")," explains Styles. "It's kind of on purpose though, it's a great riff."

Their sophomore album, "Take Me Home," will be released Nov. 12 and 13 in the U.K. and the United States.
Despite joking that they've got rapping and choirs involved this time around, the guys admit that fans can expect more of their same catchy pop style.

"There aren't too many surprises," Styles said. "We're just really happy with how the album's come out. We all agree that it's better than the first one ... we're proud of it."
"In the least arrogant way," Tomlinson made sure to add.
He then pondered why."We're a better band. We're closer as friends, we've got better vocally, it's all experience," he said.

TASK 2-

Hi, I’m here with Spike Jonze today, American director, producer and Actor! Some of Spikes best work includes music videos with Beastie Boys and Bjork.

Well my passion in life is producing high end entertainment. I mainly enjoy producing and directing music videos and artist usually are quite willing to go along with my ideas.

Focussing on your music career today, what do you enjoy about working with such big names and having the freedom to create your own masterpiece?

I love music videos because I can really connect with the lyrics most of the time and when hearing a song for the first time I get loads of ideas to work with and mould with lyrics

We have seen some of your more recent videos such as Kanye West - flashing lights and compared them to Wax - southern California. You like a minimalistic set we noticed?

I like to make my videos dark and dangerous, even if they don’t relate to the lyrics in the way the audience would think. Both of those videos revolve around one person, really.

You have had great success in your career and have worked hard in the world of media giving it your own personal edge, How did you manage to get there Mr Jonze…

Most of the time its about who you know. I am good friends with Bjork and she got me onto working to make her videos and I just started small projects in school to challenge myself

Thank you for your time, I have thoroughly enjoyed speaking to you and we have all learnt a lot from your work and see you as a great inspiration!

I'm flattered! Thank you Bob! goodbye!
